My experience as a musician and my continued involvement in Lick-Wilmerding’s technical arts program have allowed me to foster a strong passion for design. I have seized the opportunity to develop various design skills and practice new techniques, such as creating dovetail joints in woodworking and welding. I have also developed competency with machinery such as the lathe, which has opened new possibilities as I continue in my exploration of the design world. Throughout my journey, I have maintained a steady focus on functional art: taking basic ideas and items and applying my own twist to reflect my personality and creativity. I am especially intrigued with small, everyday amenities such as pencil holders, keychains, plant pots and coasters that I make to give as gifts or for my and my family’s own use. Finally, with more experience and confidence, I have even been able to connect arts and musicianship by designing and hand building two guitars.
